Protein- Your Way To Good Health

What is Protein?

Protein is a part of every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. When we eat protein, it is digested in amino acids, which are recognized as the “building blocks” of life, as they are held for creating all the other proteins our body needs. This is a constant cycle, and therefore your body requires protein every day. Protein is arguably the most essential nutrient for your body. Proteins are found throughout your system. From your muscle tissues to the enzymes that digest your meals, your skin cells, and even inside your blood. But let's say each of us could not get enough protein for our body because of the lack of eating, healthy eating habits, bad eating timings, skipping meals, and many more. This is where protein powder and protein bars enter the picture!!!

How is protein powder formed?

Protein powders were initially in demand for the gym goers but suddenly there’s been a rapid demand for protein between non-gym goers too. Protein powders are powdered kinds of protein that occur from plants (soybeans, peas, rice, potatoes, or hemp), eggs, or milk (casein or whey protein). The powders may include other components such as added sugars, artificial flavoring, thickeners, vitamins, and minerals. The amount of protein per scoop can range from 10 to 30 grams. Supplements used for developing muscle contain relatively more protein, and supplements used for weight loss include relatively less. People take protein powders because they cannot get enough protein from their regular diet and hence, needs to depend on protein supplements.

How important protein is?

Protein is very essential for humans. It's just not for your inner body system, for weight gainers or weight losers, protein is equally important for others. Protein boosts your body fight any health problems and lack of protein comprises many health problems. Protein is an important element of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly composed of protein. Your body utilizes protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to produce enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is a vital building block of bones, tissues, cartilage, skin, and blood. People sometimes get confused between fats and proteins. There's a huge misconception between both in the minds of people. Many foods contain fats and proteins in them such as nuts, oil, meat, and many more. This is the reason everything needs to eat in a portion, overeating nuts can result in more fats in your body than protein. Balancing carbs, protein and fats is important.

Types Of Protein Powder

There are numerous types of protein powder produced from a wide variety of sources. As there are so many options available, it can be difficult to decide which one will provide optimal results. Protein powders come from a diversity of sources and are available in several formulations. People use them to build muscle mass, develop overall body composition and help satisfy their protein needs. There is whey protein, casein protein, egg protein, pea protein, hemp protein, brown rice protein, rice protein, multi-plant protein and many more. These are few very popular proteins used, further about their benefits will be described in the next blog.

Do Vegans and vegetarians get enough protein?

Protein powders are powdered forms of protein made from animal foods like milk and eggs or plant sources like soy, peas, rice, and hemp. There has been the long due myth of vegans and vegetarians not getting enough protein from their diet, so they require a supplement to balance that. Let's not believe in myth and follow the facts. Maximum protein powders are made of a plant-based diet and few from milk and tofu, very less amount of protein powders are made of animal meats. Vegetarians do not get enough protein is the reason for their unbalanced diet which sometimes results in lots of bread. Non-vegetarians end up buying more supplements than vegetarians according to research made. Eating a balanced diet is the answer to maintaining the protein level in our body.

How much protein is enough protein?

The suggested amount of protein for sedentary adults (base physical activity) is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight or 0.36 grams per pound of bodyweight. This quantity is what the average person should consume to reach what is known as nitrogen balance. This results in 56 grams per day for the average sedentary man, 46 grams per day for the average sedentary woman. Sometimes it is difficult to meet the protein needs in our body, for which protein powder & protein bar is introduced which has a good source of protein with no negative effects on your body unless you are overtaking the protein powder.
